Terms and conditions

Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions are in place to ensure a smooth, professional, and reliable experience for all clients. By booking a service with The House of Makeup (NZ), you agree to the following:

1. Bookings, Deposits & Payments

All bookings are subject to availability and are not confirmed until a deposit has been received.

A non-refundable deposit of 30% may be required to secure your booking. This deposit covers administration, planning, and the reservation of your date.

The remaining balance is due prior to the appointment date unless otherwise agreed in writing.

If payment is not received by the due date, The House of Makeup reserves the right to cancel the booking after providing reasonable notice.

Early Payments & Booking Credits

Clients are encouraged to pay the required booking fee only, with the remaining balance due closer to the booking date.

If a client chooses to make payments above the required booking fee prior to the final payment due date, those funds remain subject to the cancellation and rescheduling terms outlined in these Terms & Conditions.

Where a booking is cancelled outside of the applicable cancellation period, any payments made above the non-refundable booking fee will not be refunded but may be held as a credit for up to 12 months from the original booking date.

Any credit issued:

  • Is non-refundable and non-transferable;

  • May only be used by the original client;

  • Must be used for the same services originally booked;

  • Must remain at the same location originally booked, or alternatively may be used at Sinead's Northcote home studio where suitable;

  • Cannot be split across multiple appointments, locations, or people;

  • Cannot be exchanged for cash, products, gift vouchers, or alternative services;

  • Is subject to availability at the time of rebooking.

Any unused credit will expire 12 months from the original booking date.

Payment Due Dates

To help ensure everything runs smoothly, payment due dates are outlined on each invoice and should be paid by the date specified.

As a general guide:

  • Bookings for one to two people are typically due 14 days prior to the appointment date.

  • Bridal parties, group bookings, and larger bookings are typically due 21–30 days prior to the booking date, as specified on the invoice.

The applicable due date will always be clearly displayed on your invoice.

If you anticipate any issues meeting the payment deadline, please get in touch as soon as possible. We're always happy to discuss arrangements where possible.

Where payment has not been received by the due date, The House of Makeup (NZ) will make reasonable efforts to contact the client to resolve the matter before considering cancellation of the booking.

2. Cancellation & Rescheduling

All deposits are non-refundable under any circumstances, as they secure your date and cover preparation time.

Bridal / Group Bookings (3+ services)

  • Cancellations or reductions within 30 days of the booking date will result in loss of all payments made.

  • With more than 30 days’ notice, bookings may be rescheduled once, subject to availability. Deposits remain non-refundable.

Small Bookings (1–2 services)

  • Cancellations within 14 days of the appointment are non-refundable.

  • Cancellations made with more than 14 days’ notice will retain the deposit only.

Full-Day / Half-Day Bookings

  • These bookings are non-refundable once confirmed.

  • Where possible, they may be rescheduled with sufficient notice, subject to availability.

3. Rescheduling

Rescheduling is subject to availability. Please contact as soon as possible if your date changes.

Deposits may be transferred once to a new date if availability allows.

4. Bridal Trials

Bridal trials are designed to explore and refine your desired look prior to your wedding day.

Trials take place at my private home studio in Northcote, Auckland.

Please bring inspiration images, and any relevant details such as your dress style or accessories.

A trial does not guarantee a final look but provides a strong direction for your wedding day styling.

5. Travel, Location & Early Start Fees

A travel fee may apply for mobile appointments outside the standard service area. This will be confirmed prior to booking.

Early start fees apply as follows:

  • Before 7:00am: $46 per artist

  • Before 6:00am: $92 per artist

  • Before 5:00am: $115 per artist

These fees cover additional time, travel, and preparation outside standard working hours.

6. Health & Hygiene

All tools and equipment are cleaned and sanitised between clients.

Please do not attend or book if you are unwell or have a contagious condition. If you become unwell, please contact as early as possible to reschedule.

7. Allergies & Sensitivities

Clients are responsible for disclosing any allergies or skin sensitivities prior to their appointment.

While every care is taken, The House of Makeup cannot be held responsible for reactions where no prior information was provided.

8. Client Preparation

To achieve the best results, clients should arrive with clean skin and/or clean, dry hair (unless otherwise instructed).

Please provide inspiration images ahead of your appointment where possible.

Personal Property & Client Responsibility

Clients are responsible for taking reasonable care of their personal belongings during and after the service, including clothing, jewellery, eyewear, contact lenses, accessories, and other personal items.

The House of Makeup (NZ) will provide professional advice and guidance regarding the use and care of cosmetic, hairstyling, and special effects products. Clients remain responsible for following any instructions or recommendations provided.

The House of Makeup (NZ) shall not be liable for loss, damage, staining, irritation, or adverse outcomes resulting from a client's failure to follow advice or instructions, misuse of products, or circumstances beyond the artist's reasonable control.

The House of Makeup (NZ) is not responsible for damage to clothing, contact lenses, jewellery, accessories, or personal belongings where professional advice, aftercare instructions, or product warnings have not been followed.

9. Artist Substitution

In the unlikely event The House of Makeup is unable to attend your booking, every effort will be made to provide a suitably experienced replacement artist.

If a suitable replacement cannot be arranged, a full refund will be issued for any payments made.

10. Late Arrivals

Appointments have a set timeframe.

If you are late, your appointment may need to be shortened to avoid impacting other bookings.

If you are more than 15 minutes late without contact, the appointment may be cancelled and fees may be retained.

11. Results & Adjustments

Every effort is made to achieve your desired look. Minor adjustments can be made during the appointment.

A change of mind after completion may incur an additional fee.

12. Conduct

All clients and guests are expected to behave respectfully at all times.

Abusive, inappropriate, or unsafe behaviour may result in immediate termination of services without refund.

13. Liability

All services are provided with professional care and expertise.

Clients are responsible for any damage caused to equipment by themselves or their guests.

The House of Makeup is not liable for any indirect loss or damage arising from services provided.

14. Image Use

By booking, you consent to images being used for portfolio and promotional purposes unless otherwise requested in writing.

15. Force Majeure

The House of Makeup is not liable for delays or cancellations caused by events outside reasonable control (including illness, extreme weather, or emergencies).

16. Agreement

Payment of a deposit confirms acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.

The House of Makeup is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability. We aim to adhere as closely as possible to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0, Level AA), published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make Web content more accessible for people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines will help make the web more user friendly to everyone. Whilst The House of Makeup strives to adhere to the guidelines and standards for accessibility, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website and we are currently working to achieve this. Be aware that due to the dynamic nature of the website, minor issues may occasionally occur as it is updated regularly. We are continually seeking out solutions that will bring all areas of the site up to the same level of overall web accessibility.

If you have any comments and or suggestions relating to improving the accessibility of our site, please don't hesitate to contact our accessibility coordinator Sinead by email info@thehouseofmakeup.co.nz. Your feedback will help us make improvements.
