For many brides, the hair and makeup trial is one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning. It's your opportunity to see your bridal look come together before the big day and ensure you feel confident, comfortable, and completely yourself.
If you've never had a professional hair and makeup trial before, here's what you can expect.

Why Have a Bridal Trial?
A bridal trial allows us to work together to create a look that suits your personal style, wedding vision, dress, and overall aesthetic.
It's also a chance to experiment with different hairstyles, makeup styles, and finishing touches before your wedding day. By the end of the appointment, you'll have a clear plan for your bridal look, giving you one less thing to worry about.
Should You Have More Than One Trial?
If your wedding is more than four months away, a second trial can be a worthwhile investment.
The first trial is an opportunity to ensure your chosen artist is the right fit for you and to explore different hair and makeup styles. Think of it as the discovery phase, where we can discuss your vision, experiment with options, and identify what makes you feel most confident.
A second trial, scheduled one to two weeks before your wedding, can then be used to finalise your look. Wedding plans, dresses, accessories, hairstyles, and personal preferences can evolve throughout the planning process, and many brides find they have a clearer idea of exactly what they want as the day approaches.
Having a fresh perspective shortly before the wedding also allows us to make any final refinements and ensures everyone feels confident and prepared for the big day.
Before Your Appointment
The most helpful thing you can bring to your bridal trial is inspiration photos of hair and makeup looks you love. These give us a great starting point and help communicate the style, level of coverage, and overall feel you'd like to achieve.
When saving inspiration photos, try to include examples on people with similar features, skin tone, or hair colour to your own. While inspiration can come from anywhere, this can help create more realistic expectations of how a look may translate to you.
For hair, it's also important to consider your dress. The neckline and overall style can have a big impact on which hairstyles work best. For example, a high neckline may suit an updo or style that keeps the hair away from the dress details, while other necklines can work beautifully with hair worn down or half-up.
Don't worry if you haven't made every decision yet. Part of the trial is discussing your ideas, exploring options, and finding a look that complements your features, dress, and wedding style.
The Consultation
Every bridal trial begins with a conversation about your wedding day.
We'll discuss your venue, dress style, colour palette, photography plans, and the overall look you'd like to achieve. Whether you're dreaming of soft, natural makeup or something more glamorous, the goal is to create a look that feels like the best version of you.
Hair and Makeup Application
During the appointment, we'll create your chosen hair and makeup look while making adjustments along the way.
This is the perfect time to provide feedback. If you'd like more volume, a softer eye look, a different lip colour, or changes to your hairstyle, we can make those refinements together.
The trial is designed to be collaborative so that you're completely happy with the final result.
Taking Photos
Once your hair and makeup are complete, I always recommend taking photos in different lighting. What looks beautiful in person may appear slightly different in photographs, and this can help us make any final adjustments.
These photos also become a useful reference for recreating your look on the wedding day.
